For me, Rowan Vitality is about health and hope.
It’s just that simple. In 2010 I was diagnosed with one of the Breast Cancer Genes (BRCA1), which made me take a step back to reevaluate my career, my life, and the choices I was making. Doing something to make a difference became more and more important to me and, ultimately, became my mission. At the risk of being too corny...Rowan Vitality is my opportunity to live that mission. It is my opportunity to show my kids that we can learn from our challenges and turn them into something positive. It is my opportunity to show we actually can live "the change we wish to see in the world". |
I am, by training and by nature, an analyst, a problem solver, and an advocate for change. In my previous career as an Economist, my job was to understand complex systems, analyze potential challenges, and find and share solutions to those challenges. I must admit, my friends all thought I was crazy when I left what was my dream job and career in search of a different path. But, it turns out, building Rowan Vitality into a conscientious company requires much of the same work I know and love, just with a different direction.
In facing my own health challenges, I learned how our skin absorbs toxins from our environment and from the products we use, which makes our cells work harder to stay healthy. When I realized it was hard to find truly nontoxic and effective products that would give my cells their best chance to stay healthy, I began to make my own. My goal was to make not only non-toxic, but also nutritious, products to support my health. That is the foundation that lead to creating Rowan Vitality products from naturally occurring plants and minerals in a way that is gentle on the earth and ensures a good quality of life for the people creating our ingredients and materials.
In creating our recipes, I use the same rigor of analysis I used as an Economist to understand the impact each ingredient has on our health, our environment, and the communities in which that ingredient is grown or harvested. As we grow as a company, my goal is to provide information and resources to help us all better understand the impact we have with each and every choice we make, whether we mean to have that impact or not. And my mission (and my hope) is to give each of us opportunities to make positive impacts with our product choices.
In a world where we have so many challenges, doing something positive and healthy, something that shows my kids we can make a difference with our actions and our choices…well, this is where I get my hope and this is what helps me work through and overcome my challenges. From my challenges…from my personal fears…I hope to show my kids that we have the power and the strength to create our own future and to share that hope with others to make a change that helps all of us together.
